Do you work on your own? Or, maybe, you're thinking of starting your own business. You can avoid the problems that cause many businesses to fail within 2 to 5 years... The Business Credibility Blueprint.. In 2008, after having coached people about motivation, achievement and presentation skills - for 8 years, I left full-time employment to work for myself. Within a few months, I realised how little I knew about running a business. So, I had to learn very quickly. I started by developing a marketing message. I learnt that marketing has a 'syntax', and that it was not the black art that I feared it was. I learnt how […]

Principle based psychology in business

I just sent an email to someone that included the sentence “I believe that you are at an exciting stage in your life - with your new understanding of the ‘inside-out’ nature of reality.” I know some people, who have not experienced the benefits of understanding how the mind works, might question my use of the phrase “exciting stage in your life”.  However, I found that my understanding of the ‘Three Principles’, from which we experience life, has increased my levels of productivity and well-being beyond anything I could have imagined. Most of us, whether in a business context or not, are just scratching the surface of the potential of […]

I have noticed that many people who are successful in life seem to be good at public speaking. This is no coincidence really, because the attributes of a good speaker are the same attributes needed for a successful business. The eight attributes of success. Numerous business owners have a useful skill – a valuable skill – that can help a lot of people. They are passionate about communicating the knowledge they have, and love what they do. However, they have a one major difficulty: Not enough potential customers. And to overcome this difficulty, some presentation skills are essential. Marketing yourself, and your ideas, is a key function in any business. […]

What are the three questions that will make a meeting more productive?

– Posted in: Business, Psychology, Success

Each of us has a different ‘reality’ to our peers, because of our different life experiences, and so we bring own unique paradigm to any meeting. This was emphasised to me during a team build event. Having failed miserably at a task, the whole team learnt the importance of clearly understanding the task objectives. How did we fail (not get the outcome we wanted)? We gave up, when we still had time to complete the task. This was because we had misinterpreted the instructions for the task. The instructions included the term ‘par time’, meaning the average time previous teams had taken to complete the task. As soon as we […]

You don’t need to get confidence…

– Posted in: Business, Psychology, Success

... because you have it already. I am interested in the fact that we had no problem with self-belief when we were babies. We had the confidence to be self-expressed whenever we wanted (at the top of our lungs if we thought it was necessary). The difficulty many people experience is that their own thinking suppresses their inherent well-being. You can hold a beach ball underwater with a little effort but as soon as you let it go, it will pop straight up to the surface. Something happens when a person realises the amount of energy they are wasting suppressing their innate creativity with their own insecure thinking. When they […]

A plausible goal.

My brother created this diagram (click on it for larger image) to help him make a decision and asked me where I would put base-jumping on the curve. This was my reply (long winded I know but I thought I should apply my process). I like the idea of base-jumping but I stop myself from doing it. In my experience, anything that might stop me from achieving a desirable outcome will fall into the following nine areas: 1. Information: - I don’t know anything about what is required to base-jump but I could find out. 2. Skill: - I have proved I can jump off things so I just need […]

How does 15% equal 131%? Six areas to increased profit.

– Posted in: Business, Marketing

There are six areas in a business in which you can make changes and increase your profit. I have listed the areas below, along with some examples of the changes that could be made: 1. Increase the number of people who receive your message - By adding a video (or improving the existing one) on your web site - By carefully choosing the words in the titles of your marketing emails 2. Increase the number of people who take action on your message (your ‘leads’) - By giving immediate value and a compelling call to action 3. Increase your conversion rate (the number of enquires converted into customers) - By […]
